CAS, Creativity – Photography Experiments

Image
I recently begun working in the area of photography. I have had some interest for a long time, but never started. After I started with my IB film class, I started taking on projects on my own. I only have a telephone camera, but it is still very powerful. I'm able to use different exposure settings and focus settings that allow me to capture images that are quite interesting. This connects to LO1, as I do know how to use the telephone camera very well, however, I will begin using a traditional camera in the future, so I will need to learn more skills with manual photography settings. This has allowed me to utilize my creative skills in ways that I haven't before, because I really have not done any work with photography until now. One of my photos is shown below.

CAS, Service - BBYO Fundraiser

Service Type: Group Fundraiser As part of my youth group, BBYO, I have taken on a role which is responsible for the finances and fundraising. In this post, I am reflecting on a fundraiser which I planned, organized, and and carried out. The funds raised contributed to supporting the youth group. This was a very difficult undertaking, even though the needs for the fundraiser weren't excessively large. It connected primarily to two learning outcomes (LO2 and LO3): A challenge undertaken (Fundraising for the first time with no experience), and planning and initiating work (Developing and carrying out the fundraiser myself). This fundraiser was in the form of a bake sale, which I have never done before. I've never planned a fundraiser in general. This project was done without much assistance from others, at least on the logistical side. The first thing I realized was that by conducting this fundraiser at a public venue, there was more involved than just setting up and selling...

SnapStream: Finding Leads

After getting a tour of SnapStream and learning more about what they do, I began on my first project in the marketing area. I got set up with a LinkedIn account connected to SnapStream so that I could begin searching for potential leads who would utilize their product. This search was initially a bit strenuous, as I didn't have the paid version of LinkedIn to start, but everything eventually worked out. For this project, I was searching specifically for leads in the talent recruitment (television, movies, etc.) industry with certain positions, such as audio visual designers, advertising staff, chief technology officers, or editors, all of whom have some sort of experience with the use case of searching through television, video, and social media for the purpose of advertisement and boosting their clients. In my next day interning, I will begin seriously populating a spreadsheet with the data I have found, and SnapStream will reach out to these leads to see if they would like to u...

SnapStream: First Visit

Image
I attended my internship for the first time today. It was on a Monday, even though I will attend on a Wednesday from now on. I spent some time touring SnapStream's office and spoke with the CEO, Mr. Agrawal. We discussed some of my interests as he explained the workings of SnapStream to me. Their office is very interesting and exciting, so I'm eager to dive into my work with them. As I spoke with Mr. Agrawal, I learned a bit about the technical side of their operations, but identified that the 'business' area seemed better suited for me. I met a few of the other employees there, all of whom are very friendly. As I continue, I will hopefully shift through various areas within their company so I can find what I like best. To begin, I will be focusing on sales & leads, which I will give an update on next time I attend my internship.

SnapStream!

As of my first semester, I am interning at a media technology and software company that works with organizations such as The Late Show with Steven Colbert, E News, and Major League Soccer. They've developed a powerful product which can record, search, distribute, and share televised media efficiently, and on a large scale. I've been extremely interested in business, technology, and sales – all of which I am able to explore at SnapStream. This is truly an amazing opportunity for me to learn and grow within such a cutting edge company. I will be posting status updates on my internship weekly, as I attend most Wednesdays.
